Twenty-four hours to the supplementary governorship elections in Kogi State, the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi State has been burnt down.

According to the Daily Post, the office is located at Dekina in Dekina Local Government Area, a resident has confirmed.

Political thugs are said to have stormed the INEC office around 2am on Friday, December 4, 2015 demanding for ‘sensitive materials’. When their demands were not met, they burnt down the building.

INEC officials have stated that non-sensitive materials were affected in the attack on their office and that the controversial supplementary elections would continue as scheduled on Saturday, December 5.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a suit in a Federal Court asking that the electoral commission be compelled to either declare its candidate, Captain Idris Wada winner of the November 22 winner or cancel the election and order a new one. The party as hinted it would not participate in the supplementary elections.

The candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abubakar Audu died on a day after the elections and was leading in the votes when INEC declared the elections inconclusive.
