The palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has been gutted by fire on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The cause of the fire at the palace located in Central Lagos is yet unknown, but fire-fighters from the Lagos State Fire Service “are battling to put off the fire,” the report said.

It added that Oba Akiolu has been taken to a safe place.

The Lagos monarch dominated headlines last week when a video emerged online showing him snubbing the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at a public function.

The action generated a lot of commentary from Yorubas and other Nigerians with a good number of those critical of Oba Akiolu. Some suggested that he had come under a curse for disrespecting a foremost Yoruba monarch.

One of the white cap chiefs of Lagos responded to the uproar that greeted the release of the video. Chief Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, who is the Opeluwa Onido of Lagos, said that the Lagos monarch did not ignore Ooni of Ife at the public function as being misconceived by people.

He said Oba Akiolu’s response to Oba Ogunwusi was the culturally acclaimed way of greeting by a monarch in Lagos.

He added that the Lagos King is basically trying to revive the culture and tradition of ancient Lagos, which is peculiar to the State.

Ajose is quoted as saying, “The sign by Oba Akiolu signifies ‘inu mi, inu e’, the culture of greeting in Lagos. “If Oba Akiolu wanted to ignore, he would have turned his face away from Ooni.”

“There is no misunderstanding between both highly revered monarchs in Yorubaland.”

According to Ajose, the relationship between both Yoruba kings is peaceful and mutual.

The Palace of the Ooni of Ife also issued a statement saying that the monarch had forgiven the Oba of Lagos.

An analyst had suggested that the monarch is visually impaired due to a 21-year-old battle with glaucoma. He argued, in a piece on Sabi News, that the Oba of Lagos was actually blind and did not know he was being greeted by the Ooni of Ife.

According to a report in Nigeria’s Nation Newspaper, Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture has entreated controversial Prophet TB Joshua to rescind his decision to leave Nigeria.

“That will be very unfortunate in the sense that if he does move out, it will affect our tourism in Nigeria,” Mohammed told journalists at the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), held in the Renaissance Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Pastor Joshua is an important person; he must bear with us,” the minister admitted to journalists at the event which hosted top dignitaries within the tourism sector.

“This is his country. If he moves out and goes to South Africa (for example), the revenue will go to South Africa.”

Mohammed said he would be reaching out to the cleric to voice his concerns, adding that the Nigerian government was ready to dialogue with Joshua to address the challenges faced by The SCOAN.

“It is better that Pastor Joshua sits down with the relevant authorities and resolves whatever problems he has,” the minister concluded.

Mohammed’s statements are the first public acknowledgement by the Nigerian government of Joshua’s economic and social impact on the country in terms of religious tourism.

South African telecoms firm, MTN, on Friday sacked 280 of its employees in Nigeria, in a major job cut that affected about 15% of the company’s entire Nigerian workforce.

Those affected by the move include some 200 permanent employees and about 80 contract staff across various cadres, ranging from new graduates to senior managers.

Many of those sacked spent up to 15 years with the company having joined MTN as it opened its business in Nigeria in 2001.

Our sources said affected workers were given a dismal severance of 75% of their gross monthly income multiplied by the number of years with the company.

“Given that the company is about 16 years old in Nigeria, the severance package brought pain and discontent among the affected staff,” one source said.

“With the payoff structure, senior managers with 15 years of service were left with about N15 million. Most of the staff got less than N5 million.”

MTN Nigeria recorded nearly $1 billion in profit in 2016. However, the telecoms firm was heavily fined by the Nigerian government for failing to disconnect 5.2 million unregistered subscribers.

The spokesperson for the company, Funso Aina, could not be reached for comments on Monday, May 1, 2017.

But a source familiar with the latest downsizing said 200 of those affected had earlier agreed to leave the company voluntarily.

The source said the sackings were as a result of “the changing dynamics of the telecoms industry in recent times”.

The source said the company introduced the voluntary severance scheme, VSS, to provide a window for one week in April, for persons who have served in MTN for five years and above to take up.

Those who decided to leave under the VSS were to be paid the equivalent of their three weeks gross salary for every year they worked with MTN.

“What it means is that if one worked in MTN for five years, one would be paid three weeks of their gross salaries times five,” the source said.

Eventually, all 280 staff were disengaged under the VSS and paid their benefits, the source said.

The absence of Buhari at key government functions had fuelled speculations about his health, with critics mounting pressure on him to step down.

Femi Falana and other civil rights activists, linked to Bola Tinubu, have also called on the president to go on urgent medical leave.

Malami addressed state house correspondents after meeting with the president., ‎who is a member of ‎the Presidential committee investigating suspended Secretary to the Government of the General of the Federation, SGF,

He said the final report of the committee probing Babachir Lawal, suspended secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Ayo Oke, director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), would submit its report on Wednesday.

However, he refused to speak on whether the committee would yield to the calls of not making the report public

He also met with the group managing director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr Maikati Baru, on Tuesday briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the activities of the corporation and its subsidiaries.

He said he briefed the president on the activities of the corporation and its subsidiaries, and on the relative stability in the nation’s oil and gas sector in recent time.

He said the president expressed delight over the reported stability in the oil and gas sector.

“I briefed Mr President on the state of the NNPC and its subsidiaries and also nationally to get him briefed on the situation of fuel supply, crude oil productions, gas production and by extension, ability to supply gas to the power sector,” he said.

“We had an extensive briefing as you could see; I passed here over two hours. I spent quite some time with him to discuss these national issues.

“He was happy with the state of the corporation and told us to continue with the efforts that we are doing and if we need any executive attention we should not hesitate to come back to him.

Baru disclosed that following the peace and stability being enjoyed in the nation’s oil and gas sector, the nation recorded two million barrels of crude oil production on May 2.

He said the NNPC had no plan to increase the prices of its products as being speculated.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-political group, has expressed sadness over the inability of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to declare the state of his health despite his deteriorating condition which had prevented him from attending to important public issues and asked him to declare his health status.

President-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo made this known at a news conference in Enugu on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

Nwodo also described the bail condition for Nnamdi Kanu’s release as “a celebrated example of judicial rascality” and vowed to challenge the action in court.

Nwodo further said that Ohanaeze Ndigbo would file an action against the discriminatory appointments so far made by President Buhari against Ndigbo, as they were unconstitutional. He said that although Ohanaeze was in support of a similar suit filed by Chief Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, in 2010 , he pointed out that it was only made public now because Agbakoba was recommended by the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, to be appointed a judge of the Supreme Court in a bid to disqualify and ridicule him.

On the recent declaration by some northern elders led by Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu that the north would not support restructuring of the country, Nwodo said, those opposed to restructuring were unpatriotic. His words, “Not too long ago, a group of northern elders met in Abuja and through their spokesperson, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu , made very strong views on the national discourse. They first of all distanced themselves from the conclusions of the 2014 constitutional conference describing their treatment at the conference as intimidating and claiming to have been under-represented and therefore advised the present Federal Government and the National Assembly not to take the conclusions of that conference seriously. They also condemned any suggestion to restructure the federation insisting that our present structure must remain.

“Ohanaeze finds these conditions patently unpatriotic, inciting and capable of whipping divisive tendencies in our polity. We do not know how any patriotic person of the immense character and reputation of our leaders at the Abuja meeting will wait for nearly three years to disassociate themselves from resolutions they contributed to, moved motions on, voted for, had taken seriously we also plead to be excused from the 1979 and 1999 constitutions which were prepared by military governments dominated by northern military officers in which officers from Ohanaeze states had only token representation.

“Our federation is totally out of sync with all known definitions of a federation. We have no independence of federating units. Nigeria is a unitary state with too much powers in the federal government and no fiscal independence or responsibility for domestic security in the states. The need for restructuring is so obvious when Kano with 9.5 million people has 44 local governments and Lagos with 9.1 million has 20 local governments…

“Some northern leaders in their utterances give the impression that our nation is their conquered territory. God forbid! We should all be joint and equal partners in a common bid to build a united, virile and strong country…”

Nwodo further condemned the inability of the Federal Government to end the Fulani herdsmen killing of innocent Nigerians in Kaduna, Benue, Enugu among other states in the South West, South East and Middle Belt states across the country saying that Buhari must order their arrests and prosecution for peace to reign. On railway development, Nwodo said it was “a vote against the South East, North Central and North East” in the country.

“The major railway projects by the Federal Government are the Lagos- Kano modernisation, standard gauge rail lines and the Lagos – Ibadan segment is already ongoing at the cost $1.231 billion; the Lagos –Kano modernisation standard gauge rail line project which Kano- Kaduna segment alone will cost $1.146 and the Lagos- Calabar Coastal Line will gulp $3.474 billion… “There is absolutely no plan for the Port Harcourt – Maiduguri or the Eastern Rail line which traverses Port Harcourt – Aba- Enugu – Oturkpo- Igumale- Makurdi- Kafanchan – Kuru- Gombe and all the way to Maiduguri…” he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has attend a weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 making it the 3rd consecutive week that the ailing leader has been absent from the cabinet exercise.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo chaired the start of the session, which was open to the media, which had to leave after prayers were said and the national anthem played.

Buhari has been resting after treatment of an unspecified illness.

The 74-year old former brutal military ruler has hardly appeared in public since returning home in March after nearly two months’ medical leave in Britain.

He did not attend the last two cabinet meetings.

Buhari had said on coming back from the United Kingdom that he would need more rest.

On Tuesday, his wife Aisha Buhari, seeking to counter growing concerns about Buhari’s ability to run the country, said his health was not a bad as assumed. She gave no details. But alluded to meetings between the president and two members of his kitchen cabinet.

The senate has confirmed, Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan, the two ministerial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ocheni, from Kogi state is replacing James Ocholi, a late minister of state for labour and productivity, who died in a road crash in March 2016.

Hassan from Gombe is the replacement for Amina Mohammed, former minister of environment, who is currently at the United Nations.

Ocheni obtained a doctorate degree in public finance from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2004.

He is a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and that of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria.

Hassan is the former chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Gombe. He is also one of the non-career ambassadorial nominees whose appointment the senate confirmed earlier.

The nominees fielded questions from the senators during the screening.

They were confirmed when their nominations were put to a voice vote by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The confirmation could be seen as a sign of improvement in the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

In March, the upper legislative chamber halted the screening of resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as requested by Buhari in protest of the decision of the presidency to retain Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against its wish.

Back then, it shifted the exercise by two weeks, but up till now, the RECs have not been screened.

On Tuesday, Saraki initiated the process for their screening.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, has refuted reports circulating online that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has changed his stance on his fight for the freedom of Biafra from Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, and e-mailed to The Trent, Fani-Kayode, through his spokesperson, Jude Ndukwe refuted the reports and said that there were manufactured in the All Progressives Congress, APC Media Office widely known to be the source of deceptive and fake news which intend to cast the opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari in bad light and cause disaffection among Nigerians.

“There is a statement making the rounds to the effect that Prince Nnamdi Kanu made certain statements that are contrary to his original stance on national matters and are found disturbing by his admirers, supporters and followers,” Ndukwe wrote.

“Some other versions of the rumour have it that he made the statement during his visit to Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

“While we are proud of having hosted the courageous IPOB leader when he paid a visit to FFK [Femi Fani-Kayode] as part of his “Thank you tour”, we wish to state categorically clear that Prince Nnamdi Kanu didn’t make such statement.

“Our investigations have revealed that that statement emanated from the notorious APC Media Centre (a coordinated propaganda machinery of our collective traducers).

“Kanu could not in any way have made and did not make such a statement, and nothing of that sort or anything near it was said by him or any other person present at the meeting. If anything, our strong belief is that the IPOB leader still holds very tightly to his struggle and the principles behind it. He does not in any way look like a man that would flinch in the face of intimidation or harassment. He cut the figure of a man that is more determined now than ever to see his struggle through to a logical conclusion.

“The meeting was also held in an atmosphere of conviviality and was characterised by mutual respect and appreciation for and to all parties involved in the struggle to have our people emancipated from oppression and tyranny.

“We therefore cannot afford to help our common traducers divide us now.

“Unfortunately, some of those who shared the wickedly false story in the social media and other places are those who should have known better and apply circumspection. They are those who are the most pitiable victims of State oppression and tyranny but would neither raise a finger to join in the struggle for emancipation but would rather put all their hands in bids to destroy it.

“At this point, we ask, whose interest are they serving?

“Our traducers are master propagandists. It beats our imagination that some people can’t still spot their work when they see it and dismiss same even on its face value.

“We urge every well meaning Nigerian to kindly disregard that misleading statement purportedly authored by Prince Kanu whenever and wherever it is found and dismiss same for all its malice, wickedness, evil, as the intentions of its faceless authors are divisive and ignoble. But they have failed,” the statement ended.

Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, said that the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Wednesday’s [May 3, 2017] Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting followed medical advice from his doctors.

Mohammed stated this while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting, which was presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He explained that the President, who was in office on Tuesday, was asked to take some rest by his doctors.

He thanked Nigerians for their concern and prayers for the quick recovery of the president.

“I know you will want to know why the president was not at the meeting,” the minister said.

“You are also aware that the president was at his office yesterday [Tuesday, May 2, 2017] and worked at the office.

“I think about a few days before now we did come out to say he has been asked to take some rest by his doctors and he chose today to rest instead of attending the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank Nigerians who have expressed a lot of concern and sympathy and those who have been praying for him.

“We always said Mr President will stick to his doctors’ advice so that he can recover much more quickly,’’ he said.

Mohammed dismissed as wicked and ungodly the insinuation that the President’s health had deteriorated to the extent that he was being assisted before taking his meals.

“It is absolutely bunkum. It is absolutely untrue that he is being fed.

“He was in the office yesterday as you all reported. And if the doctor says `oh, you take a rest’, I think you recover faster when you rest and when you ought to rest rather that forcing yourself to work when you are not fit to work.

“All he is doing is that he is following the doctors’ advice.

“So, whatever is happening today is not any new development. Is actually what he said that he has been advised to take it easy by his doctors and that he would soon also go back for further medical attention in the UK,” he added.

According to the minister, President Buhari deserves commendation from all well-meaning individuals and groups for being transparent and upfront in the matter concerning his health.

Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is planning to plant guns, huge amounts of foreign currencies in a house believed to be his.

Speaking on the floor of the senate on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, Ekweremadu said a source tipped him off on the alleged plot of the anti-graft agency to indict him.

Ekweremadu said the commission planned to arrest him for three weeks and charge him to court since the immunity clause, contained in section 308 of the constitution, did not apply to his office.

The deputy senate president said the aim of the whole plot is to destroy his political career.

“I will simply read the information then we rest it at that. They said on 6th of May Saturday night/Sunday, the EFCC alongside the local and international media under the guise the whistle-blowing policy of the federal government have obtained a warrant to search an apartment alleging to be one of your guest houses in Enugu capital state,” he said.

“The EFCC will be claiming to have a tip-off from a whistleblower from your state alerting the EFCC of a huge amount of money of currency in the apartment said to be belonging to you Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“The proceed which is likely to be illegally obtained and acquired which constitute abuse of office and corruption. The things said to be discovered in the said apartment are a huge amount of money with huge currencies such as British Pounds sterling, US dollars and Indian Rupies. There will be a single photograph of you.

“This will lead to your arrest and detention pending the outcome of the investigation well sponsored non-governmental organisations will be protesting around the nation -Lagos, Enugu and FCT Abuja.

“Sponsored youths will come from your senatorial district to the national assembly gate. While protest is ongoing, the EFCC after detaining you for three weeks, you will be charged to court as section 308 immunity clause do not apply to your office. Their target is to indict you and kill your political career.”

As of the time of filing this report, Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the commission, was not available for comment.

A call made to his telephone indicated that it was out of reach, while response to the text message sent is still being awaited.

The Oodua Muslim Coalition, OMC, has described as mischievous and self-serving claims that Muslims in Yorubaland are more than Christians and that Yoruba Muslims suffer deprivations.

The group in a statement on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, signed by its chairman, Mallam Lateef Adeyera  and general secretary, Alhaji Ambali Olubodun Noibi, who are also the vice chairman and deputy organising secretaries of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, said the statement by MURIC represents a ‘new generation of agent provocateurs” who are being used to cause disaffection and hate among the Yoruba people.

The group said Yoruba nationalist movements have been holding series of meetings to wage an intensive campaign against those he described as “Fulani agents” masquerading as Muslim leaders in Yorubaland.

“The fact is that no census has been conducted in Yorubaland to indicate which religion has the lion share,” Adeyera and Noibi said.

The culture of Yoruba people is a source of inspiration to the international community and to people all over the world. There has and will never be divisions along religious lines in Yorubaland as MURIC wants.”

He described MURIC as a “tiny Taliban organization”  manned by an egocentric, divisionist and self-centred dictator who is bent on inflicting grievous injuries on the Yoruba nation.

“This group represents evil of the highest order. The group wants to factionalise Yorubaland to benefit their sponsors from who they make a living. It is an organization founded on hate, avarice, lies and deliberate plot to Talibanise Yoruba nation. This group is too small to make an impact. It is a one man show committed to the destruction of Yorubaland.”

Adeyera said it is wrong to accuse the South West of marginalising Muslims when in reality, since 1999, the most dominant political figure in Yorubaland has been Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu who is a good Muslim and who calls the shot in Yorubaland.

“We wonder where this man gets his statistics. Nigeria runs a capitalist regime where individual businesses dominate,” the statement continued.

“Those who win election in Yorubaland never did through religion. Businesses and opportunities are purely private affairs in Nigeria. Even if his claims are true, we should ask him why the Hausa Fulani Muslims always attack Yorurba Muslims whenever there is crisis in the North.

“Till date, Hausa-Fulani do not believe Yoruba people are genuine Muslims. Yoruba Muslims like M.K.O Abiola was killed. Yoruba Muslims were targets of attacks during the riots in Kano.

“No fewer than 50 Yoruba Muslims in Kwara have been killed by Fulani Muslim herdsmen. How does this justify the false claims  of MURIC that the Sultan of Sokoto is the head of Nigerian Muslims including Yoruba Muslims?

OMC said what is paramount to Yoruba people is advancement in science, culture, democracy and human rights. “It is not in Yoruba interest to take the pathway of blood, killings, brutal and savage murders and never to end bloodletting that characterize the Middle East and  North-East Nigeria. This is a primitive culture that MURIC wishes to promote in Yorubaland.”

According to him, Yoruba leaders have always emerged out of consideration for quality leadership without recourse to religion or creed.

“Lagos was ruled between 1999 to 2015 by Muslims and they brought glory to Yorubaland. Yorubaland was also ruled for a long time by Chief Obafemi Awolowo who was a Christian,” he said.

“The entire Yoruba people rose up and fought for the late Chief M.K.O Abiola who was a Muslim. The idea of saying that one religion is marginalized in Yorubaland, which is an extension of a capitalist society where wealth is created by individuals and not the state, is not only silly but outrageous.

“MURIC is a tiny Taliban group with no mass base. The group does not hold elections and its structure is ran by one man since inception.

“MURIC is led by an obnoxious dictator who sustains his livelihood on crumbs from his Fulani masters.

“The beauty of the story is that MURIC exists only on the pages of newspapers. It is an extension of the Caliphate, a treacherous organization that is bent on promoting hate and avarice in the entire Yoruba nation.”

Suicide bombers struck, once again, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10.05pm in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The three female suicide bombers, reportedly teenagers and members of Boko Haram, attempted to attack a military outpost popularly known as “Gontanamo” along Muna Garage.

After being sighted by the troops in their desperate attempt to gain access to the premises, the bombers were shot leading to the explosion of their concealed IED.

The spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in the North-East, Abdulkadir Ibrahim confirmed that the  corpses of suicide bombers were evacuated  by joint NEMA/BOSEMA Emergency Response teams .

“We have evacuated the corpses of female teenagers. One security personnel who was injured is being treated,” Abdulkadir told PR Nigeria.

Buhari Defeats Boko Haram?

Late December 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari declared victory over the Islamist terrorist group after Nigerian troops announced that they have recaptured Camp Zero in Sambisa forest, the base of the deadliest terrorist group in the world.

The Nigerian Army later presented the president with the flag belonging to the terrorist group in a “mission accomplished” ceremony.

Since the declaration a week ahead of Christmas Day 2016, Boko Haram has launched a number of deadly attacks in the North Eastern region of the country where the terrorists have murdered at least 50,000 since they began their campaign to establish an Islamic caliphate in the country.

Udom Emmanuel, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, has said that his administration will establish a ranch in Uruan area of the state that would accommodate about 2,000 cows to be imported from Mexico.

He said this on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the flag off of an improved cassava stem plantation with the aim of crashing the price of garri.

The governor explained that the cow importation was to ensure fresh milk for Akwa Ibom people as against evaporated milk.

“Fresh milk is more nutritious and will enhance good health and growth among the people of the state,” he said.

The governor said he was putting in place a framework that would ensure “we can actually turn around and feed ourselves,” saying agriculture remains the highest employer of labour.

Mrs Emmanuel had earlier said that the project was in line with her husband’s initiative of returning people to the farm.

Concerned Nigerians, a political pressure group, has taken Sahara Group to task over allegations of corrupt practises involving oil deals, importation of fuel, fuel subsidy scams, and bribery of officials in the state-owned oil firm, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

In a letter dated Wednesday, May 3, 2017, and addressed to Temitope Shonubi, ‘the real CEO’ of Sahara Group, Concerned Nigerians claimed that it has obtained official documents exposing worrisome levels of corruption and breach of public trust by the energy company and demanded explanation from the firm.

The group accused Sahara Group of bribing the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari and making huge campaign donations to the Muhammadu Buhari presidential organisation to curry favours from the government.

“We are group dedicated to the propagation of the ideals of good governance, accountability, respect for the rule of law and the delivery of sustainable socio-political and economic development to the Nigerian people,” the letter signed by Deji Adeyanju, the group’s convener and John Danfulani, the group’s secretary said.

“We have since begun investigations into the processes of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, and its subsidiaries, including Duke Oil Limited.

“Our investigations relate to the processes for the award of licences to lift crude oil on behalf of NNPC, the remittance of the proceeds of the sale of crude oil to government coffers and the application of all relevant laws without fear or favour.

In the course of these investigations, certain allegations have been mentioned against Sahara Oil at different times. These allegations include:

“Allegations of bribery and corruption by Sahara Oil to several senior officials at NNPC to subvert due processes in the award of licences to lift crude oil.

“Allegations that Sahara Oil receives licences to lift crude oil at concessionary rates different from rates given to other oil companies permitted to lift crude oil.

“Allegations of incomplete remittance of proceeds of the sale of crude oil to government coffers.

“Allegations of bribing the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Abba Kyari. In fact, these allegations infer that Sahara Oil maintains his rather expensive lifestyle to the tune of hundreds of millions of naira.

“Allegations that Sahara Oil influenced the transfer or dismissal of officials within NNPC that legality of its activities and transactions with respect to its application for lifting of crude oil and remittance of the proceeds of the sale of crude oil to government coffers.

“Allegations that Sahara Oil clandestinely donated huge sums of money to both the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organization and the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organization due to which it enjoys favour with the current administration.

“Allegations that Sahara Oil has compromised the investigative agencies in Nigeria to prevent the investigation and prosecution of its directors and employees for acts of corruption, corrupt enrichment and fraud.

“And various other allegations of breach of relevant laws.

“In the course of our investigations, a large amount of evidence potentially indicting Sahara Oil has been given to us by insiders within NNPC and the oil industry.

“In the interest of justice and equity, we feel the need to bring these allegations to your notice and to seek your response to them before the conclusion of our investigations and the preparation/submission of our report to the relevant statutory and investigative authorities.

“To this end, we request that Sahara Oil responds to us dispelling these allegations within 7 days from the date of the receipt of this letter,” the group threatened.

According to The Trent’s findings, other top oil firms were also indicted alongside Sahara Group, however, the oil company was the only one to refuse receiving the letter.

Concerned Nigerians has vowed to take further action to expose the oil company including making the report of its findings available to the Senate and security agencies in the country.

Also, the group said it would picket the office of the Sahara Group, among other actions.

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State, says he will not run for elective office again.

The governor on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 noted that he will not contest the senatorial seat in the 2019 elections.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti while meeting with civil servants, Fayose said his main preoccupation, henceforth, is to advocate for a better Nigeria.

“I don’t want to contest again, not even for senatorial race in 2019,” he said.

The governor also lamented the situation whereby residents of the state fail to participate in government policies where data are collated.

He said: “One thing I have learnt was that, Ekiti people don’t normally participate in some government policies where data are collated. And it used to affect us in getting extra grants or favour from the Federal Government and international agencies.

“The Federal Government is planning to renovate 1,000 health centres in Nigeria and Ekiti got only three. When I enquired, they said the data used to compile the figures didn’t favour Ekiti. If they are to register for polio vaccine, our people won’t make themselves available, because of nonchalant attitude.”

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rectify the hitches recorded in its ongoing continuous voters’ registration exercise in the state.

“That is why I won’t care to declare more holidays for people to get registered. But I want to call on INEC to look into the faulty data capturing machines. We have had bad experiences since the commencement of the CVR programme last week and the commission must resolve all these anomalies in the interest of our people,” he said.

“I also want to note that all these problems won’t reoccur during the 2018 polls, that is the main reason why INEC, as a commission, must improve on its efficiency.”

Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s senate president, on Thursday, May 4, 2017 told the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, that he intends to file a no-case submission.

This implies that he is not opening a defence, but asking the tribunal to discharge him because there is no case against him.

Paul Erokoro (SAN), counsel to Saraki, asked the tribunal for leave to file the application of no-case submission instead of opening a defence.

This was after Rotimi Jacobs, counsel to the federal government and prosecution, told the tribunal that he had‎ closed his case.

Jacobs had called his fourth and last witness – Bayo Daudu, a senior staff member of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) and account officer of the senate president, on Thursday.

‎Danladi Umar, chairman of the tribunal, adjourned the case till June 8 for adoption of written addresses.

Saraki is facing charges of false asset declaration brought against him by the Buhari government.  The trial has been marked by heated exchanges between defence counsel and the tainted chairman of the CCT.

While making a ruling against Saraki in May 2016, Danladi admitted to being “under serious influence” when making a different ruling on the exact same submission in the case of Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the APC in 2011. The judge has been indicted in an EFCC investigation over a N10 million bribery case.

Curiously, despite documentary evidence, the EFCC cleared Danladi of any wrongdoing.

The senate president’s case has been labelled as a witchhunt by the Muhammadu Buhari regime and the All Progressives Congress, APC, an attack that began after he emerged the senate leader against the wishes of chieftains of the ruling part.

Ekweremadu’s Alarm On Loot Plantings In Nigeria Has Further Exposed Terminal Sickness Of Buhari’s Anti Corruption

A closed source alarm raised two days ago(03-05-2017) by Deputy Senate President (DSP), Ike Ekweremadu, LLB, BL; at the floor of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria concerning leaked plans by the authorities of the Federal Government through its EFCC agents to plant large sums of money domiciled in different foreign and local currencies as well as ammunitions in a dwelling house or property linked to him; with intent to frame him up or rope him in; are not only weighty and alarming, but also a vindication of Intersociety over its recent advocacy positions concerning mafia like policy and conducts of the Buhari Administration under the guise of anti corruption crusade. It is also a clear confirmation of the fact that the current anti corruption policy of the Buhari Administration is gravely haunted by terminal sicknesses.

We had as far back as in September 2015, via our advocacy statement, dated 1st September 2015, identified three terminal sicknesses haunting the Buhari Administration’s anti corruption. We had then identified and still identify them as moral deficiency/burden, selective application/vendetta and misguided approach. Till date, the anti corruption policy of the Buhari Administration is yet to recover from the three terminal sicknesses.

The Buhari Administration; peopled till date, by some doyens of corruption including their lawyers and technical partners, who now serve as members of the Executive Council, Legislators or technical advisers/supporters (i.e. human rights lawyers and CSO leaders); has since its inception in mid 2015 targeted for destruction several persons who have toiled for several decades to build their character, integrity and personality. In the case of others who circumstantially have a case to answer in graft related cases, the present Federal Government got procedures and processes messed up by resorting to acute vindictiveness and other extra judicial violent methods instead of due process and rule of law.

The late night of 8th October 2016 humiliation and frame up of some serving high court, appellate court and apex court judges and justices particularly Hon Justice Ademola Adeniji and his wife is a clear case in point. The said Judge and his Wife, who is the current Head of Service of Lagos State and their succeeding generations, will never forget to remember the mafiocratic commando operation carried out by the Buhari Administration using its SSS, which took place in the late night of 8^th October 2016 during their half-naked night rest. The damages done to the duo’s priceless character and name will never be forgotten and forgiven in decades to come.

As if that was not enough, the Buhari Administration has further corrupted anti corruption war in Nigeria and vowed to single out the country’s scarcest social saints and get them destroyed at all costs. To Buhari Administration, it is a taboo to be a public office holder in Nigeria and decide not to steal legitimately or illegitimately. It is the unholy policy of the Buhari Administration, too, that anybody who finds himself or herself in the position of authority in Nigeria or any part thereof must steal or be publicly rubbished and shamed using planted monies, ammunitions and other incriminating items.

Another shocking part is the involvement of some traditional and online media mostly of Southwest origin which are recklessly and brazenly hired or used by some criminal elements serving under the Buhari Administration. These, the present Federal Government erroneously and deceitfully tagged whistle blowers. They are hired or used anytime the Government criminally deems it fit through its assigned security establishment or allied agency (i.e. Police or SSS or EFCC) to legitimize and canonize through false reporting, of odd acts of the Government such as planting of loot funds and incriminating items like ammunitions; targeted at roping in or framing up marked enemy citizens or State enemies. Such false or cooked up news when arranged is designed as breaking news or exclusive news reports.

We had in our two recent advocacy statements, dated 16^th and 24^th April 2017, declared that monies said to have been discovered and recovered from some places and dwelling houses in Nigeria are mired in utter crookedness and bedeviled by criminal and dishonest intents by those behind their discovery and recovery. We have also subjected the discovered and recovered monies and circumstances of their discovery and recovery to criminological forensic analyses and found everything associated with same to be utterly dubious, mischievous, illegitimate, unlawful, unconstitutional, immoral; ill conceived and ill motivated. That is to say that the monies said to have been discovered and recovered have serious question marks and failed several repugnancy tests.

The most shocking of it all is the role of VeePee, Mr. Yemi Osibanjo, who academically and religiously parades himself as a professor of law and pastor of acclaimed Holy Spirit inspired Pentecostal Church in Nigeria. He also holds a non academic title of Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria or SAN. At his inaugural swearing in, he wittingly and willingly submitted himself and his conscience to be administered with hallowed oaths of honesty, integrity and moral decency. Judging from his present character disposition, we are morally compelled to state that the Vee Pee that was packaged before most Nigerians way back in 2014/2015 as a social saint and upright man has woefully failed our repugnancy and morality tests.

Apart from his questionable appointment as chair of Presidential Probe Panel on Ikoyi Planted Billions, the Vee Pee is most likely aware conscientiously or morally that the Ikoyi Planted Billions was indeed planted by the Presidential cabal to rope in its enemy target(s), which bounced back and misfired; yet the Vee Pee as chair of the said Probe Panel is still going ahead magisterially with the laughable and legally groundless probe to possibly find an escape route to cover up the Presidential Mess by hang it on the same escaped enemy targets or around the neck of an enemy within with possibly retroactive course of action (i.e. legitimizing the false theory of the money belonging to NIA as part of its own share of 2015 election campaign or security funds given to them by former President Goodluck Jonathan) as a damage control. If the latter sails through in the form of probe panel findings; then the suspended NIA boss and his foot soldiers will finally be used as sacrificial lambs with the false giver of the funds directly targeted for humiliation and regime vindictiveness.

Shockingly and surprisingly, it was Hon Justice Ademola Adeniji and his innocent wife in October 2016; Andrew Yakubu in February 2017; Pastor Johnson Suleiman-Stephanie Otobo Scandal (most likely planted and sponsored from Kaduna State) in March 2017; Kaduna Airport, Balogun Market and Lagos Bureau du Change crookedly recovered Millions of March and April 2017; Ikoyi Billions of 12th April 2017; and fresh billions and ammunitions plantings, planned to be exploded tomorrow being 6th of May 2017, with DSP Ike Ekweremadu as the prime target; but which got leaked and exposed two days ago, May 3 2017.

The real motives and prime targets of the litany of plantings by their planters had earlier been officially but partly revealed by the Anambra State Branch of the All Progressives Congress in its recent public statement in which it wickedly linked the Ikoyi Billions to former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State. It specifically asked him to return from his US trip and take public and criminal responsibility of the planted monies planted at Osborne Towers at Ikoyi.

Further analysis of the Anambra APC’s statement clearly indicates that former Governor Peter Obi may most likely be one of, if not the prime target of the planted but misfired monies at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi where he rented an apartment and stays since he handed over to Governor William Obiano as the Anambra Governor in March 2014.

It is so sad and shocking that public governance in Nigeria has descended so low, gravely and dangerously to the extent of falling into the hands of mafiocrats and gangsters who parade themselves as public office holders and political actors. It is also so sad that Nigeria now operates a system that rewards serial looters and political nincompoops and demonize those who vowed not to be found morally wanting in art of public governance by restricting themselves to their legitimate earnings, living and life contentment even when opportunities are easily at their legitimate and illegitimate disposals to corner, divert, pocket, misapply, misappropriate, loot, pillage and plunder trailer loads of public funds.

If it is in another social clime like Republic of Malaysia, the likes of Peter Obi would be worshipped and celebrated immortally particularly in area of use of available and sourced public resources for public good and tremendous social and human transformations. If it is to be in the same Malaysia, many universities, university colleges and polytechnics would have scrambled for him to be become their visiting lecturers. Many would have awarded him honorary doctorate degrees without demanding a dime from him or asking him to build a state-of-art hostel or building for him to be awarded such honorary degrees. If it is to be in Europe or Americas, he would have been made visiting professors of some of their universities.

Truly and conscientiously speaking, in the history of our social and rights advocacy activities in Nigeria starting from the yoke era in the Civil Liberties Organization in late 90s, we have never come across any State governor in Nigeria that vowed and maintained a stance in socio-economic prudency and personal restraints and sacrifices for the purpose of salvaging his or her State and its People. Anambra State under former Governor Peter Obi recorded a governance feat it never recorded since Jim Nwobodo civilian Administration in the 80s.

The State under the Obi Administration got 95% of its serving and retired workforce arrears and that of its LGAs liquidated; refused to borrow and got its existing local and foreign debts reduced to only N11.3 billion from its previous level of over N40 Billion; got over N75 Billion cash and investments left; experienced the highest number of constructed roads and bridges; procured and distributed the highest number of vehicular to various government establishments and other social institutions; and carried out tremendous and enormous social and infrastructural developments and transformations across the State including public and private schools and hospitals, etc. It is also a truism that no State in Nigeria, not even Lagos, Delta and Rivers States; has experienced this type of transformative governance since 1999; without mortgaging itself in serial indebtedness and legitimized and illegitimate lootery-mania.

It has also never been heard in recent times in Nigeria that an immediate past Governor of a State like Anambra is a tenant in Lagos and Abuja; when immediate former governors like him including those of Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Kwara States, their northern colleagues, etc, got their Houses of Assembly to approve hundreds of millions of naira including state-of-art houses and other bogus entitlements in choice cities in Nigeria including Lagos and Abuja. Two houses officially built for the immediate past governor of Lagos State in choice places in Lagos and Abuja is up to, if not over N1 Billion, which can construct 10-15 kilometers of road in Anambra and Lagos States.

Yet, in spite of all these sacrifices and personal restraints by scarcest moralist and conscientious Nigerians who refused to have their hands tied and soiled and their consciences mortgaged; the present central Government in Nigeria that is gripped by mafiocracy and kleptocracy; is sworn and bent on sinking the good, the bad and the ugly in its infamous project of welcome to lootery republic of Nigeria: a land of corruption and immorality.

We therefore commend the Deputy Senate President for speaking out and confirming the above mentioned earlier advocacy positions of ours concerning the three sicknesses haunting the anti corruption policy of the present central Government in Nigeria.

We further urge the Deputy Senate President (DSP) to disclose to the generality of Nigerians the names of the local and international media masquerading or being used falsely by the current governmental establishment as whistle blowers; which he mentioned in his parliamentary floor alarm of two days ago being 3rd May 2017. The DSP must come clean and remain steadfast at all times and stay away from dirty acts capable of counting him among the present brigade, if not battalion of corrupt and immoral people in the corridors of power or position of authority in Nigeria.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, is one of the prominent voices to weigh into the attack on Prophet TB Joshua by another cleric, Chris Okotie over the proposed relocation of Joshua to Israel.

Pastor Chris Okotie, the founder of the Ikeja-based Household of Love Church, had waded into the controversy surrounding Joshua’s relocation announcement.

Okotie, who has long been an outspoken critic of Joshua, took to Facebook to described the cleric as an attention-seeking “impostor”.

“He is controlled by a malevolent misanthropic spirit,” the pastor on his official Facebook Profile under a news article he reposted detailing Joshua’s alleged relocation.

“His hypocritical jeremiad should be ignored. He is just another frustrated shaman seeking public sympathy,” Okotie concluded.

Chief Fani-Kayode, a vocal politician and a prominent thought leader in Nigeria, has called on Okotie to stop attacking TB Joshua saying that the body of Christ needs to unite.

In a Twitter post on Friday, May 5, 2017, Fani-Kayode said, “Someone please tell Kris Okotie to stop attacking TB Joshua? We need unity in the Church and not division. Our clerics MUST come together as one.”

On Okotie’s resentful Facebook post, surprisingly, followers of the flamboyant cleric were quick to rise to Joshua’s defence, commenting that the cleric had not been positioned to judge on such matters.

“Honestly, I do not think a brilliant man like Chris Okotie will castigate another who propagates God’s throne,” queried Tamaraudoubra Sultan Zimughan.

“On whose mandate is Okotie labelling T.B. Joshua a shaman? Go to both Churches and see whose is more of God? Look at T.B. Joshua’s life and that of Chris Okotie and see who is more fruitful”.

APC chieftain Timi Frank and Fani-Kayode are among those who have joined the growing call for Joshua to remain in Nigeria, citing the spiritual, economic and social impact of his church.

Meanwhile, in a post on Joshua’s official Facebook page, the controversial cleric revealed the secret behind his ‘money’. According to him, the reward accrued from ministry cannot be quantified in material terms.

Speaking specifically about his foreign crusades, Joshua disclosed that he pays for the large majority of arrangements and does not touch the offerings collected during such events.

“My joy is to see people healed, delivered and blessed. That is my money. Each person that is delivered is more than $20,000 to me! That is the money God gives me – the joy to sleep in peace,” Joshua stated.

“You need to know what it means if God uses you to heal and deliver people,” the cleric continued. “If you know what it means – the joy in God using you to deliver people – you will never ask the people you deliver to bring money… If God uses you to remove the pain of one, you are more than a millionaire.”

According to the prophet cum philanthropist, “If money is your gain, you are robbing yourself. That money is insufficient – it cannot give you peace.”
